The Center for Early Communication and Learning (C-ECL) is one of seven assistive technology resource centers (ATRC )for children birth to five in North Carolina and serves as the lead agency for the Western Regional Alliance Assistive Technology Resource Center (WRAATRC). In this capacity, the C-ECL coordinates AT resources directly for 12 counties in the foothills and mountains of western North Carolina (Alexander, Allegheny, Ashe, Avery, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, McDowell, Mitchell, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yancey counties) in collaboration with the Children's Developmental Services Agency (CDSA) of the Blue Ridge located in Boone, NC and the Morganton-Hickory CDSA with offices in Morganton and Hickory NC.
The WRAATRC provide a range of services to children, families and service providers, including public awareness activities, technical assistance and consultation and an extensive equipment loan library.
In addition, members of the WRAATRC team conduct regional training events for early intervention professionals, families and medical staff in the areas of AT funding, functional living, communication, literacy and learning activities involving AT.
